We are proud to announce that ODTÜ-GÜNAM is taking part in three more new projects supported under the Horizon Europe Programme.
SOLARIS (HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-07)
SOLARIS, in which ODTÜ-GÜNAM is a project partner, will conduct data-driven studies aimed at increasing resource efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and enhancing recycling potential within the European photovoltaic (PV) supply chain. PV technologies, expected to become one of the main components of the global energy system by 2050, aim to establish a sustainable and circular value chain in Europe.
The project will analyze the entire life cycle of PV technologies—from raw materials to recycling—and develop strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy payback times. These outcomes will be presented as strategic roadmaps to policymakers and the industry.
ODTÜ-GÜNAM project coordinator, Mr. Tayfun Hız, will specifically lead data collection, analysis, and sustainability assessment activities related to Turkey’s PV supply chain.
SOLAR-MOVE (HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-05)
SOLAR-MOVE, in which ODTÜ-GÜNAM is a project partner, supports sustainable mobility by developing vehicle-integrated photovoltaic (VIPV) solutions for electric vehicles at various scales, from cities to highways. The project, carried out with the participation of 34 partners from 16 countries, aims for VIPV technologies to increase daily range by 5–10 km, reduce grid dependency by 20–50%, and establish economically viable business models.
The technologies developed within the project will be used both on vehicles (buses, heavy-duty trucks, delivery vehicles, caravans, etc.) and in photovoltaic-integrated charging stations (ePIPV). Turkey will be one of the pilot sites for VIPV-equipped electric buses and ePIPV solutions enabling opportunity charging.
Dr. Hisham Nasser, ODTÜ-GÜNAM project coordinator, will lead the team responsible for the design and development of TOPCon solar cells for different VIPV systems.
SUN-TRANS (HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-05)
SUN-TRANS, a project in which ODTÜ-GÜNAM is a partner, is an innovative initiative aimed at accelerating the transition of urban and commercial fleets across Europe to low-carbon transportation solutions. The project combines vehicle-integrated photovoltaic (VIPV) systems, high-efficiency power electronics, and AI-based fleet management platforms to improve the energy efficiency of electric buses and last-mile delivery vehicles.
Pilot applications will be carried out in İzmir (Türkiye), Alba Iulia (Romania), and Bilbao (Spain) to test the performance of VIPV technologies under different climate conditions and to utilize real-world operational data to reduce operating costs by up to 30%. These efforts will not only help reduce the carbon footprint of urban transportation but also contribute to the wider adoption of clean energy.
ODTÜ-GÜNAM project leader Dr. Parisa Sharif will lead the team responsible for the development, testing, and field demonstrations of VIPV technologies within the project.
